The big story of today is the weather; the Winter Storm Watch for the St Charles County Area has been reduced to a Winter Weather Advisory, meaning the potential for severe winter weather conditions are much more limited as forecasts for the storm are becoming more clear, the current forecast for the area is from 1-3 total inches of snow through falling through the overnight to the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

Extreme cold temperatures limit the effectiveness of salt and ice melting chemicals, so motorists are advised to take precaution, limit their speed, and leave plenty of breaking room. Any snow that falls on the ground will likely be melted by the end of the weekend, as much warmer temperatures are forecast Saturday, with highs rising into the upper 40s on Sunday. Up to the minute local St Charles County Weather Forecasts can be heard at 15 and 45 past every hour on 102.1 The River.
Although Missouri law doesn’t require drivers to fully clear off their vehicles, the Missouri State Highway Patrol strongly recommends it for safety. Drivers are urged to take the time to remove all snow and ice, especially from windows, and to allow extra time for travel at slower, safer speeds. Ensuring full visibility is key to avoiding accidents in winter conditions.

Slick Road conditions on Sunday morning led to a driver sliding out of control and into a house off of Birdie Hills Rd in St Peters. Neither the driver nor anyone at the home were injured.

The City of St Peters Health Department reminds area residents that February through early March is skunk breeding season, so you may notice more skunks in the area. To keep your pets safe, we recommend making noise before letting your dogs outside to give skunks a chance to leave your yard. If you spot a skunk, stay calm, back away, and make soft noises to alert them of your presence so they can escape. Skunks generally don’t spray unless they feel threatened. The Health Department states skunks play an important role in the environment by controlling pests and deterring foxes.
